Ports  

The ports (the interfaces) do not have an IP address, since they are layer 2.  The ports are configured for auto-negotiation with Fast and Gigabit Ethernet.  The switch senses the attached devices modes – if a device does not support auto-negotiation, then the switch sets that port to half-duplex by default. 

There are four modes :

• Auto – default for 100 Mbps ports – includes autonegotiation

• Full – full duplex

• Full Flow-Control  -  full duplexs with flow control

• Half – half duplex – default for 10 Mbps ports
