Scanreg allows you to fix or return your Windows registry to a previous saved backup. It is a lifesaver when the system gets trashed. First you must reboot to a command prompt (hit F8 after the beep and select "Command Prompt only"), then:

Win98: 

                scanreg /fix (to repair the registry) 

                OR

                scanreg /restore (to return to a previous version)

WinME: 

                scanregw /fix (to repair the registry) 

                OR

                scanreg /restore (to return to a previous version)
