Wireless Zero Configuration Service

This service is XP's way of automatically configuring wireless adapter's, such as the Linksys PCMCIA notebook card - which tells you to NOT use the included setup/install on the CD, but to simply insert the card and boot, and let XP configure it.  The service must be started for the card to work.  

To start the service . . .

• Start/run . . . services.msc
• scroll down to Wireless Zero Configuration Service
• double-click on it to open the settings box
• click "Start" to start the service
• set it to automatic using the drop-down box
• reboot

If it still does not show in the list of Services:

run regedit and find

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WZCSVC

add a DWORD entry named "Start" and value "2"
