Hey !!  What happened to Config.sys ??

Config.sys went to that file cemetery in the sky, along with Win98.  However, few realize there is a replacement for it with XP called config.nt

NOTE: typically you will not need to use config.nt  -  however, it is a method of customizing the startup of Windows XP and may be needed depending on the situation.

To configure the MS-DOS subsystem, use configuration commands, such as device or lastdrive. Place these commands in the Config.nt file in the systemroot\System32 directory or in the Config file specified by an application's program information file (PIF).

These commands affect the MS-DOS subsystem only. You may recognize them because most have been around forever.  The MS-DOS subsystem ignores many of these commands, such as buffers and break, because the MS-DOS subsystem works without them. They are accepted for compatibility only.
