So utterly important for dial-up users !!! Nothing is more
frustrating than to spend 2 hours downloading an important file, only to have
it disconnect and stop. By now, virtually everyone has IE 6, luckily.
IE 6 Resume
IE6 will resume a normal Web download, so long as you use the same filename and attempt to restart the download in the same folder. If you need to disconnect and resume later - do not press Cancel !!! Instead, disconnect and let IE report the error. Then next time it will resume the DL.
IE6 Resume does not seem to work with FTP !!
Fixing IE 6 Download Resume
Use Tools|Internet Options|Temporary Internet file|Settings to increase your web cache to at least 1000 megs. If the zip file is
bigger then your cache, it ain't gonna fit, and you won't be able to resume!
Clear the Temporary files.
Your web browser is using the HTTP/1.1 protocol. This protocol supports resumable downloads. Enable via Tools/Internet Options . . . Advanced tab
If you are not going through a web-cache/proxy-server. This is good. Some web-cache/proxy-servers do not support resumable downloads.
If your web browser can not resume downloads, check both boxes under Tools|Internet Options|Advanced|HTTP 1.1 settings. You will have to restart your browser for these changes to work.
You can try using the port 81 download link to bypass your ISP's cache server if it does not support resumable downloads. However, your browser sees the two download links as different files. You must select the same link that you started your download with to resume a broken download. If you don't, the download will start from the beginning.

IE 6.x does support automatic resume, if you get disconnected while downloading a file.
NOTE: you can use "GetRight" but it does not work on some links. Netscape has "Smart Download"
