WinXP VPN Client
If your company allows you to connect to the company network from home or
when you're on the road using Virtual Private Networking (VPN), it's easy to
configure your XP computer as a VPN client. Here's how to do it if your XP
computer is connected to the Internet with a broadband connection:
- Click Start, Control Panel, Network and Internet
Connections, and then click Network Connections.
- Click Create a new connection, and then click Next.
- Click Connect to the network at my workplace, and then click Next.
- Click Virtual Private Network connection, and then click Next.
- Type a name for your company VPN connection, and then click Next.
- Click Do not dial the initial connection, and then click Next.
- Type the host name or IP address of the computer where you are connecting,
and then click Next.
- Use one of the following methods:
- Click Anyone's use if you want to share the connection with all
users.
- Click My use only if you do not want to share the connection.
- Click Next, and then click Finish.
NOTE: many companies use a 3rd party IPsec VPN client software
utility such as Nortel Contivity and Citrix Thin Client - and they may have a
special way of connecting, such as a specific website to go to. If so, the
above procedure may not work
