XP won't Burn CD-R or CD-RW Discs

Three Steps

Step1 ) Enable CD Recording

  1. double-click "My Computer"
  2. right-click the CD drive and select "Properties"
  3. click the "Recording" tab
  4. check the box to enable CD Recording, and select one of your hard drives as a temporary storage space for files (XP copies the files to that drive, burns them, then removes them from that drive), as follows:

Step 2) drag files to the CD, which copies the Files to the Temporary Drive

open Explorer

drag the files/folders you want to burn to the CD, from the right pane - to the CD drive on the left pane.  This will cause them to be temporarily copied to the temporary drive, and will show them as "ghost" files on the CD drive - see screenshot below:

Step 3) Burn the CD

Right-Click on the CD icon on the left pane of Explorer

select "Write these Files to the CD"

the CD Wizard will open and list a default name (label) for the CD, which will be today's Date.  Change the label if you want to.

Click Next to burn the CD

when done, click Finish, and the Burn CD wizard will delete the files from the temporary drive

DONE !!!
